Two bed bunk roomBAD BITS:- Thin walls and floors mean its not the quietest of places. My room (31) next to doorway and communal bathroom suffered from loud strange noise when WC was used. - Inadequate kitchen work surface. It was quiet when I stayed but prob only enough space for around 4 cooking, on the single hob/oven.- Drying room is separated from building. Bring spare shoes.- Only two electrical sockets in a 2 bed room, neither accessible from bed.- No bunk/reading lights.- Only small hand towel provided, in a room of equivalent cost to nearby hotels.GOOD BITS:- Firm mattress.- Sturdy not wobbly bunk frame.Away from road- Close to the moors (5 min walk via A30 pedestrian bridge)- Polite staffOverall Ill prob use other local hotels in future, which would save me up to 30 per night on the room cost if using nearby Travel Lodge.
I'd not stayed at a YHA before and was really pleasantly surprised with YHA Okehampton! We had booked a 6 bed, ensuite room and unfortunately 3 of our party had to cancel. I'm not the sure the room would have been as spacious with another three bodies/luggage in there as the room was quite small, but I shan't mark down my review based on assumptions!Breakfast was prompt & delicious! A vegetarian fry-up was available for the veggie in our group. The self-catering kitchen was also a great addition, giving us the means to make anything our heart desired in a well equipped kitchen!I will definitely stay at this YHA again, and consider others when travelling in future.
Great hostel. Clean, comfy beds and a great fresh cooked breakfast if you want it. Town is about 5 minutes walk and plenty of parking.
Me and two friends camped in the camping field and it was very pleasant, we didn't eat in the kitchen but there was no real noise during the night and the field was very clean. It has a very nice view and it is very close to the town
Staff friendly and helpful. Building well maintained. Games room week stocked cost 50 pence for pool and fussball. Food was good price and kids under 10 ate free with a paying adult. Breakfast good though the coffee was undrinkable sachets (please get proper coffee as it let's breakfast down). Beds comfy but some pillows flat and hard and some beds so squeaky that kept others awake in room. Room 32 lower bunk on left was terrible. Overall pleasant stay. Kitchen with fridge and freezer great!
